We had so much fun during Catholics School Week! Even though we missed one day due to a snow day, we still had plenty to keep us busy. Enjoy some pictures from the week :)

It's been a while since I last posted so...Happy New Year!! I hope everyone has been having a great 2016 so far! January has been such a fun and exciting month, including the end to another quarter in our school year. It's hard to believe the year is already half over! We had so much fun in January with our winter-themed projects. We did such a great job with our Snowman family projects! We made snowmen with the letters of our names. And even learned how to make snowflakes to decorate our classroom door. We read the story The Hat by Jan Brett about Hedgie the Hedgehog who got stuck in a wool stocking. When he went around each animal on the farm they asked him why he had that hat on. To save himself from embarrassment, he made it seem like everyone should have a hat to keep them warm. Each of the animals run to get something for themselves and end up taking all the clothes off the clothesline! This month also has some really exciting things coming up. In math we are learning how to find partners of 10 and teen numbers, how to compare two numbers and continuing to add and subtract. I am amazed at how well we are adding and subtracting! Handwriting we are working on finishing up our letters and working hard in our writing folders. Reading we are finished with our Alphafriends. Now we know all the sounds and can read and write with all the letters! Your children have been coming home with Guided Reading books for quite a while. I meet with each group once a week, and we will change books during their GR center. Please have your child read the book 2-3 times a week. After a few times it will become “memorized”, so just continue making sure that they are following the words with their finger as they are reading. Seeing those words over and over will help them recognize the words in other types of print. Any type of reading is beneficial! It will be amazing to see how much they really can read already!!! This week we had some fun and exciting activities planned for Catholic Schools Week. We have the Cake Walk (keep buying tickets!) on Friday, February 5. Then on Monday, February 8th we have the 100th day of school. Finally on Tuesday, February 9th we are having our Valentine's Day Celebration because the next day is Ash Wednesday! Please bring your Valentine's and boxes on that day (or before) to share with our classmates. I hope everyone has a great February and enjoy the fact that our days are finally getting longer!! Stay warm! Upcoming Events- February 8 – 100th day of school!! February 9 – Valentine’s Day Celebration February 10- Ash Wednesday-Kindergarten at Mass February 18 – Kindergarten at Mass February 19 & 22 – No School |
