We had so much fun on our field trip to The Farm and to the apple orchard. Thank you so much to the chaperones who were able to attend, it is greatly appreciated! We were able to see so many different animals at The Farm and were even able to feed the baby goats with bottles of milk. There was even an opportunity for us to milk a goat if we wanted to. In the afternoon, we were able to go to Hillside Apple Orchard. We got to see where the apples take a bath after being picked, how they get bagged up for selling, and even got to walk in the big refrigerator! Next, we got to take a wagon ride back to the apple trees and were able to pick some nice, juicy apples. After that we even were able to pick a pumpkin out of the pumpkin patch. But there was one rule, it could only be as big as you could carry!

We have gotten into the swing of things here at school. READING- Last week we finished up our work with our Super kid Cass. Now this week, we got a new Super kid, Oswald. Oswald helps us with the letter Oo and the short letter sound. Oswald's favorite thing to do is learn about odd animals such as the ostrich, ox, and ocelot. He also likes to draw and make up new animals and give them odd names like ott-ott and crid. MATH In math we read the book Anno's Counting Book. It is a book of scenes for each number 0-12 that show how a town is built and how it has changed over the course of the year. Students had a chance to make some of their own scenes for numbers 2-5. We have some really great artists. We had underwater scenes to garden and zoo scenes. They were really neat and students had a great time sharing them with the class. We have now started on our shapes and learning that shapes are all around us in everyday objects. See what shapes you and your child can find around your house and neighborhood. THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO
September 27- Whole school Mass for Father Suess' last school day Field trip (Be watching for pics) September 28- No School October 1- Father Scheuster's first Mass October 5- Fun N Fit Walk (rescheduled) We have had a great start to our new school year. The kindergartners are starting to get into the swing of things and are learning all the things needed to be one year older in school. We started off our first day of school reading a great book about the feelings we can have about starting school. We read The Kissing Hand and could relate to the character, Chester Raccoon, who was nervous and sad about starting his first day of school. We shared our feelings about the first day and even made our own Chester Raccoon, they turned out so cute! We also read a great book called Chrysanthemum. It taught us that we should always be kind to one another because even our words can hurts someone's feelings. Chrysanthemum was excited to go to school until she got there and the other students would make fun of her name. Each time they did this, we crumpled up a paper heart to show her feelings were hurt. Chrysanthemum would go home and her parents would make her feel better, but even though we tried to smooth out the paper we could never quite get it back to how it started. We hung it on our wall to remind us to use kind words. This week we are starting to get into the normal routine, or trying to.
In Math we started reading the book Anno's Counting Book. Which is a book without words that shows a scene for each number 0-12. We are now starting to draw our own scenes. In reading we have started our new reading program, The Superkids. Our first Superkid is Cass who helps us remember the letter Cc. She loves to cook and make casserole concoctions with her cat Coconut. We spend 7-10 days on each Superkid so ask your child(ren) to tell you all about their new Superkid friend. |
