Then we also got the opportunity to explore how balls move on ramps and then the best part, we got to make our own ramps! We were so creative and did a wonderful job!
Even though the school year is coming to a close, we still have lots of fun activities coming up! Friday, we have a fun day planned from our Principal Josie, Monday we have mini-courses in the afternoon, Tuesday afternoon we have the talent show, and Thursday we have graduation, yearbook signing, and a fun day at the park. Time sure flies when you are having fun! Our Einstein Kit, Balls and Ramps, has kept us busy to the end of the school year. We have learned properties of balls, how balls move, and what makes a good ramp. I always enjoy watching and listening to the students discuss the best way to make their balls and ramps as they use their teamwork skills. We made our own balls out of clay and found out they were okay rollers as long as we got the bumps out, but they were really bad bouncers! All they did was go SPLAT! Then we also got the opportunity to explore how balls move on ramps and then the best part, we got to make our own ramps! We were so creative and did a wonderful job!

We are into the last full month of school. The weather is slowly getting warmer and everyone is anxious to get outside on those gorgeous days. This last month of school is no exception to the exciting events that we will have as we wrap up the end of our school year. The Auction from the Heart will be on Saturday. Thank you to those who donated items, I can't wait to see you all there. We are also getting ready for the school talent show on the last week of school. I’m excited to see all the amazing acts this year! In math, we finished up our last chapter and will now be implementing our new Einstein kit that has come! Science has been an exciting time in our classroom as well. In our Einstein Kit, we will be exploring how balls move, the bounciness of certain balls, and how well some balls can roll. Later on we will be able to make our own balls, and make ramps for balls. We will need empty toilet paper rolls to make our ramps. Please collect toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, or wrapping paper rolls and send them with your child. Thank you! In reading, we have learned 8 strategies to help us when we are stuck on a word: Eagle Eye, Lips the Fish, Stretchy Snake, Chunky Monkey, Flippy Dolphin, Skippy Frog, Tryin' Lion, and Helpful Hippo. Students have been doing a super job with these strategies and finding one to help them when they are stuck. We are now working on finding the main idea of the story we read, and will be practicing the sequence of events. In writing, we have learned about different types of writing we can do, such as writing letters to others, and making lists. Next week we will learn how to write a "How To" story. We can teach others how to do something through our writing! Upcoming Events May 6- Auction from the Heart May 9- Kindergarten goes to church May 11- Dairy Presentation May 25- Kindergarten goes to church May 29 –Memorial Day - No school Before I end, I also wanted to share with you some pictures from our field trip to the Wildlife Sanctuary and The Weidner Center to see The Cat in the Hat. At the Wildlife Sanctuary we were able to touch 3 different wild animals. The first was a Box Turtle, then a Fox Snake, and finally an opossum. It was so amazing to see some of these wild animals up close! I didn't get to take any pictures at the Weidner Center during the show, but it was amazing to see one of Dr. Seuss' books come to life! Thank you to all the chaperones who came and helped make it a great day! |
