After one day back we are getting into the swing of things again, remembering routines and rules after the long break. Here is a little refresher of our behavior system. We have a color system. Every student starts the day on green. If they make great choices and go above and beyond, they can move their color up the chart at any time. Similarly, if students are not making good choices they can move their color down on the chart. I give every student 2 warnings to fix their behavior before they are told to move down. At the end of the day, students who are still on green or above may put a sticker on a chart. After 20 stickers when their chart is full they can pick out of the prize bucket. Here is the list of colors in the chart.
Purple: Great behavior- Student has gone above and beyond 2 times. They get to put 2 stickers on their chart, and I send a certificate home to share with the family.
Blue: Good behavior- Student has gone above and beyond with their behavior. They get to put a sticker on their chart and a certificate sent home to share with the family.
Green: Ready to learn- What students start the day on. This is where they hope to end up at the end of the day. They have followed the rules and maintained good behavior throughout the day. They get a sticker on their chart.
Yellow: Warning- Students were not exhibiting good behavior and after 2 warnings continued their behavior. It's a warning to "try harder." No sticker will be given for their chart, but also no additional consequence.
Orange: Consequence- After moving to yellow, student continues behavior or breaks a different rule after their 2 warnings. Student will have to stay in 5 minutes of their 2nd recess as their consequence.
Red: Office or parent communication- After moving to orange, student continues behavior or breaks a different rule after their 2 warnings. Depending on the behavior they may have to spend time in the office with Mr. VandenHouten or a note will be sent home explaining the behavior that they chose to end up on red, that the parents will sign and send back. They will also miss 5 minutes of their 2nd recess.
Every student begins the next day back on green for a fresh start, just like our fresh start to the new year!
Has anyone made any new year resolutions? I bought myself a 5 year journal and I am going to write in it every day. I think it will be so amazing to look back after 5 years and see how everything has changed :)
One thing that has not changed is how much learning we are doing over in kindergarten.
In reading we are continuing to Meet the Superkids. Our most recent is actually a trio of friends, Tic, Tac, and Toc. They are 3 girls who love to cause triple trouble from jumping on the trampoline to playing the tuba and trumpet. As you can tell, they help us with the letter T!
In Social Studies we wrapped up our chapter on maps and will be starting our next chapter on Rules and Laws.
In Religion we have of course been learning about Advent, the birth of Jesus, and the true meaning of Christmas.
Please continue to send your child's snow gear to school. We finally have some snow, and all I can think of are the lyrics, "Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas!" haha Enjoy the snow and the new year!
